The Content Brief tool turns a keyword into a structured brief a writer can work from: search intent, target length, outline, entities, questions to answer and more. It uses your Anthropic key, and optionally your Serper key to look at the current top results.
Where to find it
Open Content → Content Brief in the sidebar. (A separate, Gemini-based brief also exists in Gemini AI Tools; it can take your top Search Console queries into account. This page covers the main Content Brief tool.)
Inputs
| Field | What to enter |
|---|---|
| Target Keyword | The search query the page should rank for. |
| Site URL (optional) | Your site, so suggestions fit it. |
| Content Type | Article / Blog Post, How-To Guide, Listicle / Roundup, Comparison / Review, Product Page, Category Page, Landing Page, FAQ Page, or Pillar / Hub Page. |
| Language | English, Bulgarian, German, French, Spanish, Italian or Dutch. |
| Fetch competitor word counts | Looks up the current top 10 Google results (with your Serper key) and measures how long they are. |
What the brief contains
- Search intent and a recommended H1 and meta description.
- Target word count with the reasoning - based on the competitors’ average plus a margin, or about 1,500 words when there is no competitor data.
- Readability target: tone, sentence and paragraph length.
- Outline: headings with their purpose, notes and an estimated word count per section.
- Entities and semantic keywords to cover: concepts, tools, brands, people and places.
- Questions to answer, plus up to 8 “People also ask” questions when Serper is connected.
- Competitor gaps, internal link ideas, a call to action, a suggested schema type, an estimated difficulty and content warnings.
Check the internal link ideas. They are suggestions written by the AI from your site URL, not links taken from your crawl, so make sure each target page exists before you use it.
What you can do with it
- Copy JSON - copies the whole brief.
- Add to Task Manager - creates a writing task with the keyword, intent, length, H1, meta description and keywords.
- Send to Content Writer - opens the Content Writer with the keyword and semantic keywords filled in. See AI Content Writer.
Tips
- Turn on competitor word counts when the keyword is competitive - the length target is then based on what actually ranks.
- If the brief suggests FAQ markup, note that Google shows FAQ rich results only for well-known government and health sites; the questions are still worth answering on the page.
- Treat the brief as a starting point and add what only you know: your data, examples and experience.
