Connecting Google Analytics 4

Connecting Google Analytics 4 adds traffic and engagement data to your audits, and powers content decay detection together with Search Console. As with Search Console, there are two ways to connect.

Option 1: Sign in with Google (recommended)

If you already connected Search Console with Sign in with Google, GA4 is connected too: the same sign-in asks for read-only Analytics access. If not, open App Settings → Google Services and click Sign in with Google under Connected Google Accounts.

When you start an audit, choose the GA4 property on the New Audit form, or leave it on Auto-detect to match the audited domain.

Option 2: A service account (for agencies)

  1. Set up the service account as described in Connecting Google Search Console. In the same Google Cloud project, also enable the Google Analytics Data API and the Google Analytics Admin API (used to list properties).
  2. In each client’s GA4: Admin → Account Access Management → Add user, paste the service account email, and give it the Viewer role.
  3. Copy the numeric Property ID from GA4 Admin → Property Settings. See Finding your GA4 property ID.
  4. In App Settings → Google Services → Google Analytics 4, paste it into GA4 Property ID, click Save Settings, then Test Connection.

What you get in the audit

The GA4 tab in the Data Sources group shows sessions, users and engagement over time, plus:

  • traffic by channel, device and country;
  • new versus returning visitors and top referrers;
  • visits referred by AI assistants and LLM tools;
  • your top pages, with flags for pages with a high bounce rate (above 70%) or low engagement (below 30%), among pages with at least 20 sessions.

Troubleshooting

ProblemWhat to check
No GA4 data in the auditDoes the connected account have access to the property? Was the right property selected or auto-detected?
GA4 skipped for this siteDaylytix skips GA4 when the property’s web stream is for a different domain than the audited site, so another site’s traffic is never mixed in.
Test Connection failsSave first - the test uses the saved settings. Check the property ID is the numeric ID (not a G- measurement ID), the service account is a Viewer, and both Analytics APIs are enabled.
