Connecting Matomo

If you use Matomo next to Google Analytics or in place of it, your audits can show its numbers. Audits of a site in your Matomo get a Matomo tab under Data Sources. Accounts without Matomo do not see the tab. It is available on every plan, and it is not part of the audit score.

Connecting it

  1. In Matomo, open Administration → Personal → Security and create an auth token. The user needs view access to the site.
  2. In Daylytix, open App Settings → Google Services and scroll to Matomo.
  3. Enter the Matomo address, the https address you open it at, and the API token.
  4. Leave Site ID empty, unless you want to name one site. Without it, we find the site from the audited address.
  5. Click Test Connection, then Save Settings.

The next audit reads it. Audits made earlier do not change.

What the tab shows

All numbers are for the last 28 days:

  • Visits, actions, bounce rate and average time on the site.
  • Where visits came from, with each source’s share.
  • Search engines, and AI assistants if your Matomo has that report. Older versions do not.
  • The top 20 landing pages, with their entries and bounce rate.

The same numbers go into the Full Report.

How your data stays safe

  • The address must be public and start with https://. The token is sent over https in the request body, never in an address.
  • We do not follow redirects, since one could carry the token to another site. Use the final address.
  • Only a site in your Matomo shows traffic. If you audit another site, the tab says your Matomo has no site for it, even with a Site ID saved.
  • If you switch off Search Console and GA4 for one audit, Matomo is skipped too.
